THROES OF DAWN (FINLAND)

Throes of Dawn is a metal band from Finland, formed back in 1994 by Henri Koivula (vocals) and Jani Heinola (synth). Throes of Dawn´s music could be described as emotional dark metal with a progressive touch. Their unique sound is built on the combination of synths and guitars, spiced up with screaming vocals and clean vocals. There is lots of atmosphere and depth in their music, it flows like a soundtrack to a bittersweet end. The lyrical concept of Throes of Dawn is often poetic and it deals with the deeper and darker aspects of the human psyche; like solitude, broken dreams and despair. After getting the band a full line-up and ten months of hard practicing, Throes Of Dawns first release was recorded in Autumn 1994 at the local Welmu 8-track studio. Three songs were recorded, sounding original and melodic black/death metal compared to the other Finnish bands at the time. After signing a two album deal with Woodcut Records, Throes Of Dawn recorded a four- track promo tape; "Pakkasherra", promoting their upcoming debut album also labeled as "Pakkasherra". The recordings were done in two sessions, at the familiar Welmu Studios in July and December of 1995. 7 new songs were recorded, and 4 of them were actually released as a promo tape. The tape was released in Spring 1996 by Woodcut Records. Lots of positive feedback was given by the finnish underground scene. However, the promotional side of this release was small, as the actual debut CD was utterly delayed because of the various problems with the artwork. The Album was released in -97.
